today many of want to rear a Gir cow this is because we have heard a lot about it like Gir's milk is nectarine It is full of love it is beautiful to look out of curiosity we also want to know more about Gir so in this vedeo we are going to tell you some of the basic information about the same which will not only be useful to you but alsobe of utmost importance for the rearing of your Gir cow or for opening a cow shelter for commercial purpose or for buying a gir cow...all this will prove to be of when one decides to buy a Gir cow then he would want to know certain queries answered like form where can i procure a gir cow that gives 15-20 lt milk what would be its expected cost the customer would like to have the cows photo or vedeo or one would like to have 1 or 2 cows for his home or 10 -20 cow for Dairy farming so how can i get the cow of my choice in the best available price so mostly who wish to start cow rearing and wish to procure Gir cow/cows they usually have such queries these very question may prove advantageous and many time disadvantageous to a customer because asking only these questions or else with little information such a the ones described till now will be disastrous and foolish lets talk about the dis-advantages of buying a Gir cow without having complete and right information clearly it should be understood that if you are going to buy a gir cow without having proper information about Gir then obviously you will end up loosing a lot the price of a Gir cow usually coem round about 40,000-60,000 INR from where to get Gir cow usually gir are found in Gujarat, Saurashtra or Kishangarh or Ajmer region of Rajasthan or places like these or from the people who already have bought Gir must be contacted many times you would find informative videos regarding the same when you will inquire from them they will tell you the price ranging from 40,000-60,000 per cow sometimes it may cost as low as 35,000 INR if it is situated close to your place they generally have the capacity to produce 8-10 Lt milk per day.
pl note this is an average calculation it may be 8-10 lt or more how much it would be exactly can only be know after 1 or 2 months of your bringing it to your place or only after it has given birth to a calf and entered the lactation period till then one can not be quite sure about its productivity and one has to believe the seller what he has told about the productivity of the cow if you are trying to get the cow from a place farther than your local place say suppose you are in Haryana and want a cow from Gujarat or say Rajasthan ...then be assured that you will have to pay extra what the cow may actually cost estimate of of about 10,000 extra bugs for transportation however this cost may get reduced if you buy more than one cow when you buy a cow in this way that is buying it from far off place and having it transported to your place then it is very important for
you to know and understand that the eating habits, its surroundings and habitat of the cow undergoes change even its care taker gets changed and all this happens suddenly ...over noght a cow being highly sensitive animal responds or reacts to such quick changes as these like say its milk production goes down in drastic case even stop producing milks cow may so one must get mentallly prepared for such issues don't ever think that the dealing with the seller ..costing in a range of 40,000-60,000 INR or to a maximum of say about 65,000 INR and expect to get a cow producing about 10 lt of milk transferred to your door step and once it has reached your home then you call the seller only to inform him that the precious cow is not producing any milk at all if the reduction of milk productivity happens or get completely stopped you don't have much options left..neither can you fight with the cow nor can you fight with the seller this all happens due to lack of information this in turn leads to huge loses also emotionally you fell hurt for your plans are all dashed to the ground i have bought some cows..with each producing 10 lts of milk ..or say 8
lt of milk then i will have qutie good quantity of milk that will fetch good money by selling it at 8 rs per lt etc... and all this doesn't happen as you had anticipated and here you are left with less milk than expected amount or with no milk at all because may be the cow has given birth or is about to give birth or will give birth in near future then what will you do? now how would you proceed and after 3 months later another very common issue arises hardly pondered upon by the beginners in Dairy farming and that is about the bull or the semen if you have no access to semen neither have you an access to bull then be sure this situation will make you land in difficulty and that would be...let us say you have bought 10 cows suppose 5 out of them or say 6 have given birth then these cow that have delivered the calf will come in heat only after 3 months. when this happens you having no access to either semen or the bull from nearby and when you will start inquiry about it then the only answer that you will get would be why did you not inquire about it all when you bought these cows you must enquire about this fact before buying the cows since you did not inquire about it now you will have to bear the loss now let us talk about the advantages of
having right information before buying the cows if you are planning to buy Gir cows then having some basic information will definitely be useful like if you are familiar beforehand how to talk with the dealer and what all information will the dealer displays or hides from the customers and so you need to be careful about them in this way the deal will help you to get the best cow in lowest possible price buying a cow after its proper health examination will later on give rise to less health issues say you bought a cow and later came to know the picture that showed a health and beautiful cow actually is unproductive and producing no milk at all or the she is limping on her one leg or one of its horn is infected but the biggest of all that genetically it gets sick when it starts producing milk or she suffers from mastits after child birth actually there are many such features that do not get clarified by seeing videos or pictures of the cow like the cow may be having weak digestive system or may be she would not remain productive for long or that genetically the fat content of its milk is low thus
with proper examination and observation of the cow then you will probably on high risk factor of striking a bad deal with regard to health or productivity of the said cow there are other problems that needs proper attention and inquiries like does it comes into heat period on right time or may be she has uterine infection or tumor etc or may be despite being health it has conception problems or it may happen to give birth to unhealthy or weak calf so lack of such things and basic information or let me say your lack of knowledge may lead you to acquire not so good cow though he may fool you by first quoting a higher price and then lowering it down to finalising the deal so you must ensure that such kinds of things are common in dealing with cows thus observations and examination of cows before buying them will help you save many problems later on let us discuss another issue you may also get some offers where in the
dealers may offer 2 free cows if you buy three together this hold good in remote rural areas where Gir is found abundantly say now this is the month of May but then soon it will be June which is the rainy month if we talk about Gujarat then rains commences around 15 - 30 June suppose some how the monsoon gets delayed or there is scanty rainfall or if it is May and people having say 20 cows has the burden to feed them then of course he would want to dispose off his cows in such situations generally dealers think of selling 2 cows from their herd to sustain the remaining ones or unless he arranges for their feed from some cow shelter etc by selling off a few of his cows thus by selling these cows he would raise funds to sustain the other cows so buying Gir cows at such time can be profitable because then dealers senses the coming disasters may offer you such deals where he dont want to earn by letting you take three in the price of two cows as he knows well he would not be able to sustain other cows in bad times. better let other people take care of them his belief that
the herd would grow eventually but the crisis should get over by shedding the number that may become unmanageable there is another important thing to note many time people buy and take away Gir cows however after taking them due to any reason as discuss earlier in the video please note these reasons have been discussed only superficially we will try to give you details in coming videos or provide you with more information in online program whoever has bought a Gir cow say suppose from your nearby place but for some indefinite reasons..like unproductive cow or he could not maintain it because of financial crunch due to no milk production in situations he will try to his wits ends to sell his cows probably he would say that i started the business for some gains but due to financial crisis or due to some disaster i would have to close down the business possibly i will restart my dairy business in near future or if by chance i get a better cow then i would again try my luck or he would think of selling off at least half of his cows to overcome my crisis the fact is he has committed mistakes either while buying the cow or after having bought the
cow he did mistakes in maintaining the cow now the results of the mistakes are that he is not able to maintain himself as their is no milk production in most such cases people do not say the truth and accept their mistakes he is hell bent to get rid of the cow so what can you do in such cases if you have some experience or you have some person who is well informed then taking help of such a person or from some dairy or with cooperation of some cow care taker you can buy a cow as per your wish or need such a deal will be easy on your
pocket and you will have the advantage of getting it from nearby area my experience tell me such cows are of superior quality and in-expensive in my area i can easily avail 3 free cows upon 2 that i buy even 10 free upon 10 that you buy why because they have decided to close down the dairy buisness however they are very sensitive and an ardent cow lover with immense faith on cows he will try his best to pull through the bad times but being unable to do so if by chance he happens to meet the right man then he will sell off as his convinced that cows will not be slaughtered he would even become ready to sell whole herd in just half the actual price in order to ensure the safety of his cows so in such circumstances and situations if there is a person or a cow care taker then by contacting them and taking guidelines from an experienced person you can bring such a cow easily such a deal would be beneficial to both the parties such deals should be done because they benefit both ways otherwise there is always a possibility of a cow being slaughtered in slaughter houses in such less worth
as 6000-7000 INR only this we have experienced and seen with our own eyes now let us talk of very common things say for example when we want Gir cow they you have flood of information regarding the same on the net and innumerable people who will claim to provide you with authentic features of Gir on you tube you tube is a great hub of the same where i thousands of videos are present to provide you with loads of information however let us see what type of information is provided by such videos when we saw some of these videos that claim to provide the information regarding Gir features and identification they will tell you that the temperament of Gir cow Peaceful this is quite truthful Gir cow's temperament is quite and loving and its social in nature that is lives peacefully with coperation in its herd only few are aggressive in nature some people say that tail of Gir should be long enough as to reach the ground
now this is quite ridiculous and irrelevant a tail functions to protect the cow from flies and mosquitoes a real Gir cow has long front udders but smaller hide udders the bodily structure of Gir cow is such that but if you will observe from behind then both pairs of udders will appear in same line however when people keep feeding the calf from only particular udders due to this those particular udders lengthen so people assume that long front udders are a feature of pure Gir cow but question is how does one define real Gir cow one thing i am pretty sure that the difference in length of front and back udders should have any relevance in this regard another fad about Gir is its weight is 600-800 kgs minimum this is a bit exaggeration with regard to gIr's weight may be the Gir bull have this much weight but on an average the weight of Gir cow varies in the range of 400-450 kg this cow will be good enough to yield 10-12 liters milk/day if you see the cow in the picture it weighs around 600 kgs however this is rare to find you will hardly find such an ideal cow such a cow may have the capacity
to produce 30 liters milk/ day thus a Gir cow weighing 600-800 kgs is only an exaggerated fad sources say that real Gir cow MUST essentially have a spot on it like a red cow may have white spot or white cow may have red spots over it so breeders are of this opinion that real Gir cows must have spots on them THIS IS COMPLETELY BOGUS STATEMENT although you will not find purely white Gir cow but a Gir should essentially have spot on it has no basis like look at this cow it is purely red in color and doesn't have any spot over it you may find red, light brown, brownish or dark brown Gir in common like here let me show you a cow of different colour but to say that Gir cow should essentially have spot as a proof of its authenticity is nothing but a bogus fad without basis such bogus fads should not be propagated because this kind of propaganda will
not spread right information and may mislead innocent people to buy other cows in place of Gir cow for example in one of the videos i personally saw a person claiming to own a cow that is Gir and is red in colour with white spots but it also has black spot along with white spots on it such a rare combination of red, white and black is rare to find only if one is lucky will find such a combination my understanding in this regarding is it MAY BE CROSS BREED OF GIR AND HF this is more than possible in such cases what i mean to say is to speak such things especially to people devoid of any information about Gir are prone to become disillusioned one should not talk like this its neck skin should be long but one must know it only is a bodily feature that adds to the beauty of the cow another fad is Gir only comes in 9 colours this is foolishness and then some say that 56 types of Gir cows are found naturally someone please enlighten me out of 56 types the 9 different colors that are defined and amongst them only the one with a tail touching the ground and with a spot ...if all these things are absent then it may not be Gir a novice would not have a way to find all these features in one cow people staying in their own place and trying to buy the cow through Social media connections if they sit with the check list of all these features mentioned above then even in 10 years they would not succeed in finding such a cow the horns must first grow down and then curve upwards in my
opinion like the Cow shown in picture the horns have first grown down and then curve upwards due to this feature the shape of the head is like a pot turned upside down this is a attractive bodily feature of Gir Cow it has no connection with its productivity so this bodily feature about horns is true fact the hump and the legs should be in one line as you can see here in the picture like this as i mark it this also one of the bodily features of the gir cow the length of the cow should be more than its height because it is a mark of productivity please note that the length will be in proportion to its height the proportion of length and height is usually maintained there are may such subtle facts which should be known to you please understand unlike HF Gir's Length and height proportion is maintained not HF which looong as a train its bone structure the skeletal
constitution and its stomach all works in proportion its digestive system and its food the capacity of taking in the feed the intestinal make up so if one want that cow should possess all qualities suited for max milk production then look out for these features also before buying however there many other features that are not independent of one another so you can not focus on one thing and ignore other only looking for the length and deciding on its productivity is not good criteria for deciding to buy the cow if the skin of the cow extra thin then it will remain productive for a long period of time but if the skin is thick then it should be understood that milk productivity will be less and it will only increase in its fat content what they are trying to tel you is that there are two types of cows one are the ones that convert the food into fat while the other type of cow cow the food into milk so they want to say is the cows who convert food to milk have thin skin while the ones that convert food to fat have thick skin what i want to say about this is to categorize the cows on this understanding is actually
an exaggeration and bragging because the skin can only tell yoi weather the cow has lot of fat or not but the belief the eating increases fat content of particular cow and milk of other cow etc is only a misbelief it is more likely that the high or low fat content of the cow is due to its digestive makeup or lack of exercise or due to over feeding or it may also happen that though the cow has good capacity of milk production yet it has not been fed with an adequate and nutritious diet so it is not able to produce milk in high quantity since its feed is of low quality therefore the fat content of the cow is low therefore it has thin skin thus you will see hundreds of such videos circulated on you tube where in such false information is being spread but which information gives true information about the bodily features of Gir cow or is a feature of Gir's productivity or is just Gir's unique feature can not be stated with certainty since this all can not be known for certain people tend to become confused when they go ahead to buy a Gir Cow for such info is of little use whatever any such info that we came across now we are going to classify them in three broad categories bodily features of Gir cow and its beauty the ways to recognize a productive Gir cow unique features of Gir cow when you observe a Gir cow in reality or in Picture for example here you are seeing on your screen it has different features when you go
to buy a Gir Cow some features describe its beauty which are the parameters of its authenticity please understand that if a few of these features are absent in it then it not a real GIr cow for example if its horn are not growing from below to upwards so it can not be real Gir cow or its tail which should have been long enough to touch the ground should not make you decide of the authenticity of it being a Gir if its dewlep is of not such and such kind then we can doubt about its authenticity however some things are related to its productivity for example the curve of its lips or the beautiful eyes can not be related to productivity factor or the curve of horns or curve-less horns only relates to its beauty and do not tell us about its productivity if the ears are not rimmed like ribbons or you cannot place a one rupee coin in its ear does not mean it can not be GIr cow please understand all these features are only an indication of bodily beauty these facts have nothing to do with its productivity factor but you can conclude that
absence of such and such bodily feature makes its less beautiful but not less productive like i told about the head and the various organs on head bodily organs like dewlep or hump or shoulder or tail or hoofs all cater to bodily features only that describes and defines only the beauty of the cow the legs and hoofs too also are related to the bodily structure though they are remotely related to milk production that is to say the deformity in bodily feature s in a course of time may effect the productivity but there is no direct effect of bodily structure on milk production like this is senseless to conclude that badly formed hoof makes the cow ill productive now let us identify certain features that indicate high productivity of Gir cow if you look for features that will ensure its high productivity are large Udder and its nipples the milk duct and milk glands the neck and the throat the dewlep the chest the ribs in the chest region the raised potion of the back and the portion where the reproductive organs are located and also the organs related to milk production are all included in the
identification of milk productivity so one must accommodate these feature while evaluating milk production so while purchasing a Gir cow pay attention to the presence or absence of these features now lets talk about uniqueness of Gir cows when you go to buy a Gir cow ensure about the temperament of the cow a video or a photo of the cow never tell about the temperament of the cow sometime the photo may reveal that the udder is large and may give you a conception of high milk capacity but what if it is of aggressive nature then what will you do if it does not allow other person to milk it you have already bought it by spending huge amount but what will you do if it does not allow to be milked neither it lets you touch it not it takes the proper feed we have even seen and experienced that sometimes the change of place of the cow fast until they
die it will chose to die than to eat till you have taken it back to its original place so such cases may occur some cows take long to settle in new environment but then it will have dried their milk by then if you are a novice in the field of dairy farming and do not posses an such information like the cows that were eating and producing milk before they were bought to my place may not please the behavior of my care taker or may not like the food given by us had led to drying of its milk or got reduced in quantity second its height and the weight
that healthy cow has is 400 kg as told earlier weight 600-800 kg is simply an exaggerated fact you can expect an average of 400 kg wt in Gir cows Gir cow that has a capacity to produce 10-12 lt of milk in a day weighs around 400 kg the myriads of colours in which Gir is found is another of their unique features then the mosaic patterns or spots of red color or different colors on white background you may also see these in Rathi cows too this feature adds to bodily beauty and may be attributed to bodily features of the Gir cow but if see no dots or mosaic pattern of different colours then please understand it mayir can be Gir COw too. dont think that Gir can not be found in single color with mosaic pattern the temperament, weight are unique features as told earlier the milk production capacity is related to weight of Gir cow also it is related to the Diet factor diet and productivity goes hand in hand the myriads of colors in which they are found the most important things is Gir belongs to dessert area where water and fodder scarcity is common so Gir cow can sustain itself even when fed on dry fodder it does not mean that you do not provide it ANY green fodder
it simply means that in times of adversity then Gir will co-operate with you and adjust to the feed as well as environment around unlike HF it will go on producing milk even if you do not keep it in AIR_CONDITIONED room or like a buffalo which stop milking in absence of water etc it is an intelligent creature loyal to its master adaptable to its surroundings and environment this makes
